Try running 1-2 print head cleanings. This is a command you can send to your printer which directs it to clean itself up. Below are general instructions for how to perform a print head cleaning, however this is done in different ways on every printer, so consult your manual for exact steps.
1. On the computer, click Start, then click on Settings/Control Panel.
2. Select Printers and Faxes (On Windows Vista, select Printer under Hardware and Sound)
3. Right-click on your printer, and click on Properties. 4. Select the Maintenance / Service tab, then select Print Head Cleaning.
On printer with a built in screen go to:
Menu-> Settings-> Tools-> Cleaning/Prinhead Cleaning
After installing your cartridges, you may notice the printer still thinks they’re empty, despite having just been refilled. This will not prevent you from printing, but you will get a few friendly reminders from the printer that you are using “empty” or refilled cartridges. Simply click OK to these warnings. You can also bring back your cartridge to Printer Refillers to have them reset again as maybe they did not catch the first time.
When you see one of these messages, simply press theOK button on the printer to continue printing.
If there is no option to continue printing (see message below), read the message and follow the steps outlined. You will be prompted to do this once for each of the cartridges refilled. After you’ve done it, you will never be prompted again for that cartridge.
Notice this message asks you to hold the printer’s STOP Button for 10 seconds. Follow these instructions and you can continue printing without difficulty.
The chip on the bottom of the cartridge is very sensitive to static electricity, and can easily be obstructed by the oil from skin or dirt. Take a moment to gently brush the chip o with a piece of dry paper towel and reinstall the cartridge in the printer. If it still does not function, please bring it back to the service centre for further troubleshooting.

When the ink actually runs out…
Error U163 The ink has run out.
This message means the ink has actually run out in the cartridge. Bring it in for a re ll as soon as possible.
There are typically two reasons for receiving this error message period
#1. The cartridge is not installed properly and not making contact with the printer properly.
#2 The circuits on the cartridge or the chip have failed and the cartridge will need to be replaced.
Typically in both cases your printer or computer should tell you exactly which cartridge is giving the error on. If the printer is showing the error on all the cartridges that are install then there is something else going on as it is highly unlikely for all the ink cartridges to fail at the exact same time. If this is the case we strongly recommend that you bring in your printer with the power cable to our store for us have a quick look at it. This is the fastest way for us solve this issue and get you on your way. If you cannot bring the printer in, then we recommend bringing in all the cartridges for us to take a look at and see if we can determine which one is causing error.
Please make sure you bring your cartridges with your original receipt.
Cause
The ink tank cannot be recognized.
Action
Open the operation panel and replace the ink tank which lamp is off.
