Remove and reinstall the indicated ink cartridge – HP Support – 15, 17, 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 41, 45, 54, 56, 60, 61, 62, 63, 65, 74, 75, 78, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 901

This error most likely means that the circuits/fuse on the cartridge has failed. The best way to determine which cartridge is giving the message is to test them separately. (Printers will from time to time say one cartridge is the problem when in fact it is the other)

Test separately:
1. Remove the colour cartridge from the printer and leave just the black cartridge installed. Send something to print and see if the message clears. If the error message clears and your document prints then it is the colour cartridge that is the problem.

2. If you’re still receiving the same error message then remove the black cartridge and reinstall the colour cartridge. Now send something to print. The error should now be cleared. If not, there is a good chance that both cartridges have failed and will need to be replaced. Unfortunately, there is no way to repair a failed cartridge.

Depending on your printer ink cartridge number, you can bring your cartridges into Printer Refillers and have us test them in one of our printers.
